Hi Neighbors!
We’ll gather for a Halloween Party Sunday October 30 at 3pm at Underwood Hills Park. There’ll be juice boxes, light snacks, Pumpkin Decorating and a kids’ costume contest. We're also kicking off the UHNA Christmas Sale! Our local firefighters will make a special appearance. Hope to see BOO there! Partners for HOME serves as a homelessness response agency in the City of Atlanta. The hold a re-occurring meeting to provide updates to the community on LIFT 2.0: a homeless response plan with a goal to house 1,500 households by December 31, 2024.
They share regular updates about work being done to address homelessness and welcome your attendance at these meetings. These meetings are 30 minutes long and intended to address the LIFT 2.0 homeless response plan only. The next meeting will be Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. The community can register at the meetings below: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZAtcuqurz8qHNSCJw8_akXLgT2hgzu6WcBu For persons needing a referral for services call 311 or contact Gateway Center. Last Saturday a few neighbors assaulted the rampant overgrowth to the west side of the lower playing field. This area has not been maintained for several years and it showed! The playing field has been gradually shrinking, with tree limbs overhanging the field down to the ground, lots of muscadine vines entangled up into the canopy, and ragweed 12 feet high. The trimmings were piled neatly for the City to remove. There are some dried limbs that could be suitable for firewood if anyone's interested ;-) About 2/3 of the area was cleared, giving an indication of the large area to be recovered. Sign up for eNews and stay tuned for the next Special Community Cleanup!
![]() A bit longer than a month since last one due to weather rescheduling. I was hoping the e-coli load would reduce with the cooling weather but it's still very high (all those black dots on the discs are little colonies, nearly 3000/100ml), as it is in many parts of Atlanta. Dissolved Oxygen is very low and there's still a lot of brown algae on the stream bed. Encouragingly there are signs of macro-invertebrate life- next month we'll do a proper sample. As always subscribe to our calendar for updates. Data is published here. We had a very productive meeting at The Works Marketing board room last Monday with a few others joining online. Various sub-committee chairs reported on this year's progress, including steadily increasing membership and engagement, a lot of activity around green space and beautification, and revamped sponsorship arrangements to account for future growth. Highlights were the tremendous amount of volunteer work done around the park and future plans including grant applications for an Arts Activation project, new equipment (BBQs, Benches) and Sponsorship starting a Baby Welcome and New Resident welcome outreach. We also learned of an exiting project with Upper Westside CID to connect our neighborhood towards the Silver Comet Trail. As always you can find UHNA activities on our website and contribute your ideas and energy via any of our leadership team. Minutes of the meeting can be viewed here. Survey Slideshow here. In the last 2-week period (Sep 24 - Oct 7), 36 incidents were reported in Beat 204. Of those, none occurred in the area we patrol. A breakdown of other activity reported in the surrounding area: Come volunteer alongside friends and neighbors Saturday, November 5th 9am-noon to help uncover the banks of nearby Woodall Creek from invasives! Lite bites and warm coffee will be provided along with an opportunity to hear about the Woodall Rail Trail, the Silver Comet's extension into Atlanta. Location is behind Star Provisions, and registration is here. Calling all teens and neighborhood volunteers. Please Join the Holocaust Memorial Daffodil planting Sunday October 16 12:30pm Underwood Hills Park
