Special Park Cleanup 9/10

9/14/2022

At the special cleanup of the park pavilion area this past Saturday arranged by UHNA Beautification Chair Kristen Hassel, a powerful handful of neighbors joined in including UHNA President Steven Lindsay, Playgroup Chair Shane Murphy, Jen and Ian Reves, Maria and Bill Schiffgens, Robin Walker and Adam Meier, along with some very helpful kids. The amount accomplished was HUGE!- check it out for yourself.
We’ll continue our efforts with another special cleanup at 8am before the 9am Trees Atlanta Forest Restoration event on Saturday, October 8th.

NPU Rep Report

9/14/2022

Picture
From UHNA NPU-D Rep Ms Eva Nason;
Of 14 items to be considered in last night's NPU EC meeting, the only one directly involving properties in UH is the following:

A liquor license request for Fetch Westside at 1295 Chattahoochee. This is at the Works development.
"The Fetch Story - Fetch Park was hatched by founder and CEO Stephen Ochs out of a desire  to be able to hang out with his beloved boxer Oakley and his friends. He was tired of having to make the  impossible choice of hanging out with friends after work or the dog park with his best friend. Ochs vision was to create a truly one of a kind community driven, social hub for dog people with safety at the forefront. learn more..."

I can't imagine there would be anything much in the way of objection to this.  UHNA can put forward confirmation to motion to approve this application at NPU-D meeting on September 27.
To have your say contact [email protected]
This next NPU meeting is going to be the first hybrid virtual/in-person meeting.  The in-person meeting will be 7:30pm on 9-27-22 at the Agape Center 2210 Marietta Boulevard NW Atlanta, GA 30318 .
If anyone wishes to be put on the list to receive the link to the virtual meeting, please email [email protected].

Food Truck Event at the Park Great Success

9/13/2022

Friday, September 9th, was the first of a hopefully long series of events at the park. Residents have repeatedly expressed interest in more informal Meet & Greet events throughout the year. Recent polls showed overwhelming support for the idea, so we kicked off the first event last Friday.
Our friends at DAS BBQ supported us with their Food Van and were quite overwhelmed by the participation (and the appetite) and quickly sold out completely.

With an attendance of over 45 adults, it was a great success, and many neighbors expressed their gratitude for organizing this event.

NextDoor, the hyper-local social network had recently launched a nationwide campaign in cooperation with Verizon to stimulate local neighborhood events (#BigNeighborhoodMeetUp) that strengthen communities and build a strong sense of belonging. When they noticed our social media campaign, they immediately got in touch with us and connected us to their media partner, Cox Communications. They sent a videographer to our event and asked permission to share some of the footage on WSB Channel 2 News. So you may find yourself in the news....

Report from UHNA BCN rep Beau Grant

9/12/2022

Buckhead Coalition of Neighborhoods.
Sept 8 2022 6:45PM

A Company called IKE will be putting up kiosks around the city, sharing ad revenue  with the City. Their sales rep gave a brief explanation of the relationship between IKE and the City. The City get's a cut of the kiosk ad revenue. The company offices are in Ohio, NYC and Hollywood.

Holding company:

My questions went unanswered, along with any other Zoom Chat questions by others. Question.. Where are these manufactured? What surveillance capabilities do they possess? Where does the data reside once captured? What OS is running? How many times have they been hacked? Obvious prank hacks could be taking over Kiosks and displaying salacious content, paradies of public figures, fake news articles to incite, capturing your face to use on other kiosks, broadcasting conversations near kiosks.. There's lots of fun "possibilities".

Security discussion was the usual thing we hear about at our own meetings. Take your stuff out of your car, report incidents to 911, pretty basic advice.

Doug Shipman, the new City Council President  presented;
911 Transfers to other jurisdictions not reliably working. The City is upgrading the system to remedy.
Operation Shield citycam network includes private cameras, 8,000 sites to date.
The APD need more Police Cars, especially for take home, which would provide better visibility, better staff retention, and be better for the cars.
Wright Street Fulton Jail  is overcrowded. City will lease jail space to Fulton County and implement within a few weeks.
APD morale is improving about quality of leadership but still not good enough since it was previously so terrible.

A Zoom caller over the phone (couldnt grab a name) reported that many city Creeks are apparently very hazardous, advised not to let kids or dogs in the city creeks, especially Tanyard, Peachtree, Proctor. City has not yet responded to citizen FIOA requests or followed up.
The BCN made no meaningful response to these issues beyond placating comments.

Someone in the room asked:
Q: Graffiti. On the rise, is there a working group?
A: No. No plans for one either.

Garbage Property Tax:
A Lawsuit is now in play over a millage rate increase for next two years. Condos, apartments were paying for services they weren't receiving. Many homes will pay more property taxes.

Reports of Street Paving not getting done. Blamed on supply chain problems. Someone asked "How do we take back our own areas from the City?"

for questions about BCN please reach out to UHNA Vice President.
