Security Patrol Report - July 15

7/25/2022

In the last 2-week period (July 2- 15), 47 incidents were reported in Beat 204.  Of those, one occurred in the area we patrol.
On July 16, 2022 at about 5:26 am, a dump trailer was stolen from the driveway of a home on Seaboard Avenue.  I contacted the reporting party, who was not home at the time of the theft.  I obtained video surveillance of the theft, reviewed LPR cameras in the area, and completed a supplementary report for the assigned detective.  The incident is under investigation and the information has been shared with the patrol team.

A breakdown of other activity reported in the area:

Armed Robbery: On July 5, 2022, a man was robbed at gunpoint while sitting in his vehicle waiting for a to-go order in the parking lot of Waffle House at 1700 Howell Mill Rd.  The suspects fled in another car.  The victim obtained a very good description of the car after following the suspects for a short time.  The incident is under investigation by the Robbery Unit.

Underwood Hills... We Have a Problem

7/18/2022

For several months Underwood Hills Environmental Adopt a Stream Citizen Science team has detected very high levels of e-coli in the stream through Underwood Hills Park.
As shown in the accompanying screenshot, currently there are no other monitored sites in the whole of Atlanta or Fulton county with such high levels.
UHNA is organizing a community effort, with the guidance of Fulton Country EPD and Georgia EPA, to locate the source or sources of contamination and remediate. Meantime Park users are advised to avoid the water.
As a start, residents upstream of the park could check for sewerage leaks at the rear of properties on Springer, Marvin, Harper and Defoor that back on to stream tributaries.
Adopt a Stream Site data is available here

The Neighborhood Challenge

7/15/2022

Picture
Neighbor Derrick Duckworth invites Underwood Hills to join The Neighborhood Challenge, a fun & friendly golf competition between Atlanta in-town neighborhoods, from Adair Park & Ansley Park to Washington Park and all the neighborhoods in-between.

The date of the event is Aug. 6th, 2022 at 8:00am, less than a month away.
It’d be great to have an Underwood Hills Team, as it’ll be the best possible event with all the neighborhoods represented.

Please spread the word.  A team of 4 is needed, and:
- you don’t have to be all Underwood Hills residents, but if possible we’d love it, and...
- you don’t even need to know how to play Golf, just think of it as an entry to learn while having a good time and representing their neighborhood.
Proceeds from The Neighborhood Challenge are going to support First Tee Metro Atlanta, and Committed To Communities
Registration is here, and only takes a minute.

Upper Westside Zoning Overlay

7/14/2022

Picture

UpperWestside CID reports; A new zoning overlay for commercial and multifamily properties in Underwood Hills and its surrounding neighborhoods is proposed. The overlay is designed to bring consistency to the zoning standards to meet the community's vision from the Upper Westside Masterplan of a vibrant, walkable, bikeable, and safe place for residents, businesses, and visitors.

An overlay is a supplemental set of zoning regulations which layer on top of the underlying zoning of a property. The proposed Upper Westside overlay proposes to add supplemental zoning parameters, from which single-family residential properties are excluded, to help achieve the community’s vision.

The types of zoning regulations proposed include:
  • Bans on billboards, concrete plants, used car sales, pawn shops, etc.
  • Restrictions on gas stations and drive-throughs.
  • Streetscape and open space upgrades that conform to the Masterplan and other City plans.
  • Transportation upgrades, including establishing block size standards, access management policies, bus stop improvements, and more.
  • Urban design standards that address building design, site layout, and more.
  • Review procedures that engage the CID and affected NPUs early on in the planning process.
To learn more about the draft Upper Westside Overlay and provide input, please attend either of the following virtual informational sessions:

Wednesday, July 27th at 6:30pm
Thursday, July 28th at 11am
