The restaurant on 1201 Collier Rd NW Atlanta, GA 30318, known to many residents as ‘DePalma’s
Porch’ has got a fresh coat of paint- but not only that. According to information obtained by the Underwood Hills Neighborhood Association (UHNA), it has undergone extensive remodeling and is about to be re-launched as a Hookah Lounge. Hookah Lounges have a long tradition and originate from Persia/ India as a place where a ‘Hookah’ also known as Shisha or waterpipe is smoked and typically drinks and snacks are served. The modern version that has become trendy in recent years, especially among students typically serves alcoholic drinks and is often more of a nightclub with music and dancing. In recent years Hookah Lounges got a bad reputation in Atlanta after some incidents involving violence. Although this side of Collier roads does not technically belong to Underwood Hills, we are in touch with relevant bodies, local politicians, and the chair of the neighboring NPU-C to better understand what is planned as it will directly affect our neighborhood, in particular residents in Collier Green right opposite on Collier Rd. We will have this topic on the agenda for our upcoming Neighborhood Meeting on Monday, April 11 at ‘The Works’ (and virtual via Zoom) and have invited Courtney Smith, President of Midtown Neighbors Association, and one of the founders of https://www.clearatl.org/, and an appointee serving on the ATAG3, a task force assembled to address liquor license reforms of policy, procedure, and legislation. Change to Saturday, March 26, 2022 1:00pm-2:00pm Underwood Hills Park, 1845 Harper St NW, Atlanta, GA 30318, USA All welcome to join in this Monthly water quality testing Citizen Science activity. Kids particularly like discovering the small creatures living unnoticed in the stream. Follow the Data recorded on Adopt a Stream website at https://aas.gaepd.org/Group.aspx?id=2909 note this project is generously supported by Fulton County Public Works via an EPA grant. A reminder the Underwood Hills Easter Egg Hunt is on Sunday March 27 at Underwood Hills Park at 4pm.
Please drop off a dozen eggs filled with age appropriate goodies on the front walkway of 1805 Ridgeway Avenue by noon March 27. Remember to mark the bag of eggs based on each child’s age group (0-2, 3-6, 7 and up). Arrive for the Hunt by 4pm or earlier. We can always use help hiding eggs if you can get there earlier. Once the event starts the eggs are picked up pretty fast! "Hope to see you with your basket." - Shane the Easter bunny
It's worth noting that several attempts to resolve this issue via store management and the City produced no result. If you'd like to be more involved in your community contact [email protected] or any of the UHNA Leadership
The UHNA Teen Committee is a great way for teens to get involved and help give back with special projects. From fundraising through city contributions, grants and private donations, they have helped install new workout equipment, swings and other amenities. For more details, email the teen committee. Steering Committee usually meets quarterly, a month or so before the General public meeting, unless there is something special to consider.
