E-coli readings are still elevated. Park users are advised to avoid prolonged contact with the water. Data can be seen here.
In an attempt to locate the sources of contamination, 3 samples were taken from sites upstream of the park behind properties in Springer and Marvin Streets. Readings from those sites were all lower than at the Park, each around 1200-1500 pcm/100ml; high but not too bad, although if readings like that persist over months it needs action. It suggest the cause is not a single point but a more general influx of effluent from all the rain washing across yards into the stream. This is why it's important to clean up after ones pets, even in your own back yard! (Prior to this latest problem readings in the park were in the low hundreds). Of particular concern is the large amount of broken glass. If someone were to receive an open wound in contact with the contaminated water it could lead to serious infection. Please reach out if you'd like to assist in a community cleanup. Comments are closed.
