Introducing- new UHNA Membership Chair Mary Aldrige

9/13/2023

Picture
Mary graduated from the University of South Carolina with a double major in international business and global supply chain and worked as a traveling consultant out of Atlanta and DC for several years before moving to Underwood Hills in 2020. She now works remotely with her dog, Sunny, as a public sector consultant. Mary enjoys playing soccer in an adult league several times a week, traveling to at least one new country a year, and volunteering for the Make-a-Wish foundation in her spare time. She’s hoping to give back to the neighborhood that’s been so welcoming to her over the last few years.

Mary is currently Interim Chair until elections end of 2023.

AQEarth West Atlanta, a first-of-its-kind initiative to investigate air quality and pollution issues in our West Atlanta communities. To kick-off the launch of AQEarth West Atlanta, partner organizations are hosting an Environmental Justice (EJ) Bus Tour & Workshop for community members and representatives from local government offices, academic institutions, and industry.
The goal of this event is to familiarize local stakeholders with source of air pollution in their neighborhoods and promote conversations and action toward improving community health.
Funded by a grant from the US Small Business Administration and National Institutes of Health, AQEarth brings precision air monitoring technology to heavily industrialized areas so that residents can understand what is in the air they breathe. Partner organizations include local non-profits CHARRS (Community Health Aligning Revitalization, Resilience, and Sustainability) and WAWA (West Atlanta Watershed Alliance)in conjunction with air quality monitoring experts at 2B Technologies, Inc. and TD Environmental Services.

In the last 2-week period (Aug 12 - 25), 42 incidents were reported in Beat 204.  Of those, one was reported in the area we patrol.  On August 25, 2023, a resident on Defoor Avenue reported their license plate missing from the back of their vehicle.  They were unable to say when or where it went missing - just that they realized it when they were at home.  A summary of other activity reported in the surrounding area:
