Jamie Hargather UH Security Patrol Chair About 30 Volunteers led by Trees Atlanta experts cleared a large area of Underwood Hills Park of invasive plants last Saturday, focussing on Air Potato, Japanese Chaffweed and Bamboo Grass.
The initial workshop explained why they need to be removed and how to distinguish from valuable but similar looking native species, and why simply mowing or poisoning only allows them to grow back!. A smaller group of trained volunteers from the Neighborwoods team helped prune and mulch many of the 400 young trees planted over the past few years. If you'd like to join in, sign up for reminders via our calendar or at treesatlanta.org This week Adopt a Stream will be conducting additional Bacterial testing upstream of the Park to identify the source of contamination. Meantime Park users should avoid contact with the stream water. More information in previous blog posts. Test Data is publicly available via this link. To participate please contact Steven 7706957591
