Play Group
What is Underwood Hills Playgroup?
Underwood Hills Playgroup is one of the many things that make our neighborhood wonderful. Playgroup brings parents and children together for fun, friendship and seasonal celebrations. Playgroup has created countless friendships among both parents and the children.
What Does Underwood Hills Playgroup Do?
• Meet weekly at the park on Fridays. During the school year, we meet at Underwood Hills Park on Fridays from 4:00 – 6:00pm. All ages are welcome.
• Congratulate new parents. We congratulate new parents with a gift of baked goods or a meal. As parents, we understand how helpful a gift of food and friendship can be in the early days of a child’s life.
• Host seasonal parties. Our parties are a wonderful tradition that brings neighbors together to celebrate events throughout the year, including:
o St. Patrick’s Day Party o Easter Egg Hunt
o Halloween Costume Party o Christmas Party
• Coordinate a monthly Mom’s Night Out. Playgroup moms recognized the importance of building friendships among themselves, and formed a monthly Mom’s Night Out. These have included jewelry making, trips to Atlanta Thrashers games, and many other adventures.
• Support neighbors during challenges. When an Underwood Hills family experiences a challenge, playgroup reaches out by supporting that family with food and good wishes.

How Did Underwood Hills Playgroup Start?
Underwood Hills Playgroup began in 1996 when Liz Jacobs and a few other new mothers began meeting informally. Back then, there were not many children in the neighborhood, and playgroup was small. Today, there are over 120 families and 300 children who participate.
When we first began, we met at the home of a different playgroup member each week. Our numbers outgrew a single house, so we now meet at Underwood Park where the children can use the play equipment and enjoy fresh air.
